This is a survey course designed to help students gain an in-depth knowledge of the history of motion pictures and to understand the development of film and its influences over time. Students will view films ranging from silent masterpieces through current classics. The course will introduce technological developments as well as cultural and thematic developments in mass culture over time. This course has a substantial writing requirement. 47 contact hours.
