I teach Fundamentals of Music as an adjunct at St. Petersburg College. This is the most basic class in Music Theory, it is a prerequisite for the Music Theory sequence required of music majors, and for the Music and Computers class required of Music Industry and Recording Arts majors. I earn my living as a performing musician with The Florida Orchestra. I also teach percussion at Hillsborough Community College, and, during summers, at the Kinhaven Music School in Vermont. I received my early musical training in the public schools in Anchorage Alaska, and in St. Petersburg, where I graduated from Northeast High School. I earned degrees in Percussion Performance from the University of South Florida (BA) and the University of Michigan (MM), and in Instrumental Conducting (DMA) from the University of Miami. I and my wife, who is a flutist with the Sarasota Orchestra, live in St. Petersburg. We have an adult daughter who is an elementary educator in the Tampa Bay area, and a son who attends the Oberlin Conservatory.
