born Aug. 12, 1953, Altoona, Pa. Moved to New Port Richey, FL. in 1966.
Graduated from Gulf High SChool, NPR in 1971--played F-Horn in band, golf team
Attended FloridaSouthern College 1971-1975. Graduated cum laude with BA in History in 1975. Major history, double minor: Secondary Education and broad field social studies. Played F-Horn in concert band
Attended Penn Steate University 1975-1977. Graduated with MA in History in 1977. Areas of concentration: 19th/20th century European diplomatic history; Colonial American History; Geography
1975-1977 Graduate Assistant, Penn State
1978-1985 taught history, economics and gov't at Ridgewood high school, NPR
1985-2002 taught history, and government at Berkeley prep. Tampa

"G" Prerequisite: (ENC 0025 and REA 0017) or EAP 1695 or an appropriate score on the placement test. This course addresses history in the land that becomes the United States of America, beginning with the migration of the Western Hemisphere’s original inhabitants. It briefly surveys the pre-Columbian Native American cultures. It also examines the impacts of the European “discovery” and settlement of North America on various groups of Native Americans, on Europeans at home and in the colonies, and on Africans forced into slavery in the New World. The course emphasizes the political, economic, social, cultural and religious aspects of life in the English North American colonies through their evolution into the United States, from the country’s developmental years through the end of the Civil War. This course partially satisfies the writing requirements outlined in the General Education Requirements. Credit is only given for AMH 2010 or AMH 2010H or IDS 2103H. 47 contact hours. |

This course covers the history of the United States from the post-Civil War period (1865) to the present. Emphasis is placed on the social, economic, political and diplomatic history. The course is designed to present history as a dynamic process, encouraging students to think historically and to encourage students to value history.
