Biography


Dr. Conferlete Carney is currently Provost at St. Petersburg College where has direct accountability for the operations of the 103 acre, 6,000 student Tarpons Springs Campus. He began his tenure at St. Petersburg College in 1996 as director of administrative information systems, and in 1998 moved to vice president of information systems and institutional research. In that same year, he became a member of the President’s Cabinet and, in addition, chaired the college’s Technology Oversight Group. His responsibilities included formulating technological strategies and programs, directing the college's administrative technology resources in the development, implementation, and provisioning of networking and processing services to the college’s students, faculty, and administration. 
 
 
In 2001, Conferlete assumed the additional responsibility of vice president of business services, budgeting and planning. In his new additional role, he held oversight responsible for the college’s financial reporting, budget planning, and institutional effectiveness. He has regular interactions with the college president, and members of the Board of Trustees on matters relating to fiscal management and major technology procurement.
 
Under Conferlete’s leadership, SPC has completed a multi-year, multi-million dollar technological overhaul. This included transitioning the college to PeopleSoft enterprise software systems, establishing a real-time disaster recovery data center, and modernizing the College’s computing technology to state of the arts Dell Flex On-demand Desktop Systems, Gigabit-Ethernet networking, Lambda Rail-based Internet2, and Voice-Over-IP-telephony technologies. 
 
Conferlete's first career of 27 years was with GTE Corporation, where he held a wide range of management and executive positions in advanced switching, networking, and information processing technologies. In 1988 he was named director-enterprise technology for GTE Information Services and vice president-information technology in 1991. He also represented GTE in the development of ISDN and Signaling System 7 industry standards in the American National Standards Institute's (ANSI) T1 Subcommittees and the International Telegraph and Telephone Consultative Committee (CCITT) committees.
 
Conferlete earned a bachelor's degree in industrial technologies from North Carolina A&T University, an MBA degree in business administration from North Carolina Central University, and a doctoral degree in Higher Education Administration at the University of Florida.
