The "Information Technology Security Curriculum & Education for Educators" (ITSCEE) is well underway.

September 4, 2008: Multi-part exercises are currently being developed in which students resolve two business-security problems.  These exercises cover access, rights, and information within a set of directives. Students also use SLIS to create some policies, interpret the policies, and apply the outcome on a Windows server. These exercises will utilize all Microsoft options in Active Directory as well as a virtual ERP application. This should be complete in SLIS by October

19 with the exercises, supporting material, and class interface.

These courses have also been presented leading to further improvement. Difficulty in getting more linkages to other colleges with budget cuts affecting all parties in education resulted in motivating a remote access facility that would prompt interest, provide remote access, and address budget challenges.

January, 2008: An agreement is sealed with (ISC)2 to extend the cooperation and cement the relationship with SPC into a formal alliance. This linkage has the potential to extend to partners too.

January 25th, 2007: The Kickoff for "Education for the Educators" took place at St. Petersburg College's EpiCenter in Pinellas County Florida. Although inclement weather lowered our projected participation it did not damper the spirits of the ones that were able to come out and brave the storm.

June 8th, 2007: The online portion of the training is launched and open to participants. There are 17 training modules available plus a community center for faculty collaboration. The training modules are hosted by St. Petersburg College's Learning Management System.

June 13th-15th: The CISSP Bootcamp was held at St. Petersburg College's EpiCenter. 15 participants from all parts of Florida attended the event.

June 16th, 2007: The CISSP exam was hosted at St. Petersburg College's EpiCenter. There were 6 participants who took the exam.

ABOUT THE TRAINING

The training consists of 48-hours of faculty development courses in IT Security that assist faculty to prepare for a IT Security certification. These courses are based upon the degree and certificate programs being developed and include all critical core curriculum. The courses are offered in "blended" format, with each participant completing their online course work prior to participation in the boot camp and finally to the exam. (Note: iTEC currently provides training in networking and other technology topics for faculty who need prerequisite skills before entering this specialized program. iTEC has agreed to continue to provide the prerequisite training to participants of this project.)
