Mission
statement:
The College Reach
Out Program is designed to motivate and prepare public school students to
achieve high education in post-secondary institutions. To participate in the
program 6th through 12th grade students must meet specific academic and
economic criteria. The program is
school-based; however, SPC Midtown also serves as a site for after-school
academic tutoring. Tutoring is scheduled
for Monday through Thursday from 3:30 p.m. to 6:30 p.m.
Students that
participate in the College Reach Out Program in addition to tutoring services
are also engaged in visits to colleges and universities, local businesses, and
cultural events. These activities are
designed to provide motivation, enrichment, and encouragement for students
toward entering and completing college.
The College Reach
Out Program provides:
- Academic
assessment
- Workshops on
study skills and test taking strategies
- Tutoring in
math, reading comprehension, and technology
- Academic and
career counseling
- Opportunity to
attend cultural activities
- Opportunity to
participate in a one week Summer Residential Program to experience living on a
university campus while engaging in developing academic projects, conducting
research, developing leadership and teambuilding skills, improving technology
skills and participating in social and recreational activities.
