Education Checklist for Eligible Veterans

If you are eligible for benefits under Chapters 30, 31, 32, 33, 1606 and 1607, please review this checklist to make sure you have completed the correct forms.

  1. Have you ever used your GI Bill benefits before?
    If YES, and you are attending the same school:
    No application is required from you; please see the School Certifying Official (SCO) at your school to certify your actual enrollment period to VA.
    If YES, and you are not attending the same school:
    Please complete and submit an Application for VA Education Benefits, VA Form 22-1990. Apply online or download a printable version of the application from the Department of Veteran Affairs Web site.
    If NO, and this is your first time:
    Please complete and submit an Application for VA Education Benefits, VA Form 22-1990. Apply online or download a printable version of the application from the Department of Veteran Affairs website.
    In addition, you may be required to provide one or more of the following documents when you submit your original application.
    • A copy of your DD Form 214 member 4 copy
      Chapters 30, 33 and 1607 only
    • DD Form 2384, Notice of Basic Eligibility (NOBE)
      Chapter 1606 only
  2. Talk to the Veterans Services Specialists 

If you haven’t discussed your VA enrollment certification (VA Form 22-1999), contact the SPC Veterans Services Centers and speak with a Veterans Services Specialist. If this form is not submitted on your behalf, you will not receive your benefits.
