Occasionally, you, as a VA student, may be overpaid. Overpayments can happen when:
- you receive grades (I, W, WF, X, etc.) that are not used in computing requirements for graduation
- you fail to report course changes immediately to the Veterans Service Center
- an instructor reports poor attendance
To avoid overpayment of benefits, you MUST report in writing any
changes in credit hours (drop/add, withdrawal or termination) to the
Veterans Services Center. All overpayments must be repaid to the
Veterans Administration (VA). Interest and administrative fees may be
assessed and added to the original amount of the debt until it is
cleared. Failure to repay an overpayment will result in an adverse
credit rating. Debt collection may be turned over to the Internal
Revenue Service (IRS) or a collection agency.
