College Readiness

Important note for Florida high school graduates

Because of changes in state rules, some incoming students no longer have to take a placement test or enroll in readiness courses to prepare them for college-level work. The placement test is optional if you:

  • Entered 9th grade in a Florida public school in the 2003-2004 school year or later AND graduated from a Florida public high school with a standard high school diploma
  • OR
  • Serve as an active duty member of any branch of the United States Armed Services

If you are a Veteran student and fall into one of the above categories, you will not be required to take a placement test or college readiness classes. If you decide not to take a placement test, you will meet with an advisor, who will review your academic history and recommend what courses may be right for you.

However, the Veterans Administration will NOT pay the tuition for college readiness classes or repeat attempts on the college placement test. If you feel the need to enroll in such a class, you will be required to pay that portion of your college tuition yourself.
