Florida residents qualify for lowest tuition

|
money iconThe tuition you pay is determined by your residency classification. Florida residents pay a much lower tuition rate than out-of-state residents.

How new students prove Florida residency

If you are a Florida resident, you can easily prove residency when you apply online to SPC by providing valid ID numbers for two of the following documents, issued at least 12 months before the first day of your classes:

  • Florida Driver’s License or Florida ID
  • Florida Vehicle Registration
  • Florida Voter’s Registration

If you are a dependent student (you provide less than 50 percent of your own support), you will need to provide documents of a parent or legal guardian.

If you can’t provide two of the items above during the online application process, you will be classified initially as a non-resident. Unless you apply to change your residency status before the first day of classes, you will be classified as a nonresident and charged the higher tuition rate.

How returning students prove Florida residency

If you are a returning student that has not been enrolled in credit classes at SPC in the past three terms, the same questions will be asked when you register online.

You must provide updated information to confirm that your Florida residency is still valid or you will be classified as a nonresident and charged the higher tuition rate.

How to change your residency status

If your residency status changes or you now have the documents to prove Florida residency you can apply to change your status. To change your residency status:

  1. Please use the information and checklists in our Florida Residency Worksheet to gather the right documents before completing the Residency Affidavit.
  2. Submit a Residency Affidavit with supporting documents to the admissions/registration office on your campus before the first day of classes to qualify for the lowest tuition rate. The form and documents can also be faxed to 727-341-7143. Be sure that your name and student ID# are included on every page faxed.
