Narrative

St. Petersburg College is in compliance with this federal requirement because it has published an academic calendar and all policies affecting students, such as grading and refunds, in the Student Handbook and online.

Academic Calendars

St. Petersburg College closely follows guidelines established by the State Board of Education in establishing an academic calendar.  The President annually appoints an academic calendar committee to propose an annual calendar that is reviewed broadly by students, Faculty, staff and administrators, and approved by the President’s Cabinet and Board of Trustees.  The academic calendar contains detailed information on registration, schedule changes, last dates to add, change, drop and withdraw, class start and end dates, holidays and final exam dates.  The approved calendar is made a part of the annual College Catalog, Student Handbook and the Course Schedule Booklet.  In addition to printed versions, the academic calendar is available in CD-Rom versions and electronically via the College Web site from the SPC Home Page, Current Student and Prospective Student pages.

Example of Student Handbook

As a result of student focus groups, the printed Student Handbook now devotes half of the book (over 100 pages) to a planning calendar for student use that includes all the academic calendar dates for the College.

Grading policies

Procedures concerning grades, to include definitions, special instructions, quality points and calculations of grade point average are clearly described in the Board of Trustees rules, the college catalog, and student handbook and in online versions of the Catalog and Handbook.  Those procedures include information on definition of letter grades, special instructions for grades, warnings on completion of grades, incompletes, changes and appeals of grade status.

Refund policies

Board of Trustees rule 6Hx23-5.19 specifies criteria and procedures for refunds of tuition, assessment and other fees.  Information is made available in the college catalog (pages xx-xx), and course schedule booklet (page xx of Fall 06 book).  Students may also access information on their specific schedule of fees via the MySPC student information system self service module.  The information includes requirement for refund of fees for credit and noncredit courses, seminars, established due dates for payments.
