POSITION DESCRIPTION

POSITION TITLE: Director of Student Success

DEPARTMENT: Various                                    SITE: Various

SALARY SCHEDULE: Administrative & Professional - GRADE: D

BASIC FUNCTION:

Coordinates and executes counseling/advising functions in the student services area.  Also responsible for testing center.                  

RESPONSIBILITIES:

·        Works closely with Associate Provost and Provost in establishing and updating educational advising, counseling and career assessment and counseling for students.

·        Maintains an active role in the recruitment and marketing of the College.  Facilitates articulation with high schools in service area through  information sessions, classroom visits, campus visits and campus open houses.

·        Coordinates the work of other counselors and academic advisors in the department.

·        Coordinates developing measurable annual departmental objectives geared toward increasing student engagement and accountability for student success.

·        Coordinates student services participation in innovative programs (i.e. Success 2004, Title III) aimed at increasing student success and overall accountability.

·        Provides academic guidance to prospective, continuing and returning students.

·        Maintains currency in the counseling profession and demonstrates mature, professional judgments.

·        Maintains currency in federal and state graduation and certification requirements.

·        Develops and makes presentations addressing life skills and college success.

·        Facilitates student career planning and decision making. Interprets career assessment instruments.

·        Coordinates development of a campus placement testing program.

·        Maintains and fosters articulation activities with high schools, colleges and universities, and academic programs.

·        Coordinates and conducts new student orientation program.

·        Conveys accurate and current academic information to students, faculty, and staff.

·        Demonstrates sensitivity to the needs of and communicates effectively with students, faculty, and staff.

·        Understands and uses available technology, materials, and tools related to the job.

·        Demonstrates initiative in assuming new assignments to address the needs of students and the department.

·        Follows federal, state, college, and department guidelines that relate to the job.

·        Performs related duties as required.

 

EDUCATIONAL REQUIREMENTS:

 

Master’s degree in Counseling or a Master’s degree including 18 graduate hours in Counseling.

 

EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS:

 

Three (3) years experience in the field related to assigned area.

 

KNOWLEDGE/ABILITIES/SKILL REQUIREMENTS

 

Strong written and oral communication skills. Strong organizational and interpersonal skills. Computer skills.  Demonstrated leadership ability.
