POSITION DESCRIPTION
POSITION TITLE: Information Services Librarian
DEPARTMENT: Educational and Student Services SITE: Various
SALARY SCHEDULE: Instructional - GRADE: N/A
BASIC FUNCTION:
Assure library service in support of the college mission
RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Foster academic excellence in teaching and learning
- Support the community college philosophy through commitment to success of students with diverse
goals, backgrounds and leaning styles
- Instruct students in accordance with college policies, procedures and approved curricula
- Maintain currency in field through professional development and scholarly activities
Primary responsibilities, 25-30 hours weekly
Reference, Individual Instruction, and Public Service Duties
Provide instruction and assistance to students, staff, and public
- Advise patrons in researching and organizing information
- Recommend reference resources and assist with use
- Use telephone, email, and online chat to assist patrons
- Assist with preparation of assignments, including documentation
- Answer questions of all kinds
- Provide referrals or ILLs when appropriate
- Make patrons feel welcome
- Assist with computer programs used for research, word processing and other applications
- Keep abreast of new resources and technology
- Assure a comfortable study atmosphere in library
- Troubleshoot, maintain and help users with library equipment
Instruction
Provide clear, accurate, and focused classroom/individual instruction to students and staff
Prepare and deliver workshops
Maintain website or other electronic resources
Develop and prepare teaching aids
Collaborate with instructors in teaching specialized topics
Secondary responsibilities, 10-15 hours weekly
Supervisory or Support Duty
Oversee
support staff in a particular departmental area

Collection

- Faculty Liaison
- Collection evaluation and development
- Selection
and development of new services and resources
- Planning and budgeting
- Weeding
Strategic Planning
- Evaluate services and resources
- Assess and plan library facilities
- Participate in library, college campus, state and national committees
- Formulate library policies and procedures
- Build partnerships and cooperative ventures with other libraries/institutions
EDUCATIONAL REQUIREMENTS:
Master's degree in Library or Information Science
EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS:
Demonstrated success in providing library services, preferably in higher education
KNOWLEDGE/ABILITIES/SKILL REQUIREMENTS:
Strong written and oral communication skills; instruction skills; knowledge of library
traditional and electronic resources and services and use of the Internet
