Patron Criteria

Patrons can request inter-library loans for items not owned by the Seminole Community Library or any other member library of the Pinellas Public Library Cooperative, provided that:

  • The requesting patron has a valid card of the Pinellas Public Library Cooperative  (this may have been issued by any PPLC member library).
  • The requesting patron has no more than five current inter-library loan requests.  Current requests are those pending, shipped, or received by the patron.  Items returned are no longer current.
  • The requesting patron does not have accumulated fines and/or charges of $10.00 or more on any of his/her library accounts.
  • The requesting patron has not failed to pay overdue fines for an inter-library loan; or failed to pay charges for a damaged or a lost inter-library loan item.
  • Patrons are responsible for any fines and/or charges levied by the lending libraries for lost, damaged or defaced materials. Highlighting, underlining or making marginal notes are considered defacement.

Requested Materials

The Seminole Community Library follows the guidelines of the National Inter-Library Code (2001) that place some restrictions on what we may borrow from other libraries.  We do not borrow the following materials:

  • “High-demand” books or books published within the last 12 months.
  • Textbooks used in coursework or published within the last 3 years.
  • Reference books.

The Seminole Community Library will make a good faith effort to fill requests. We reserve the right to limit requests for difficult-to-obtain items.  As we do not charge for this service, we do not borrow from libraries which charge a fee for lending their material.

The lending library determines the due date for the items loaned through ILL.

Renewing inter-library loans is the prerogative of the supplying library, not the Seminole Community Library.  Consequently, patrons wishing to renew an inter-library loan must apply at least five (5) business days before the item is due.  Requests for renewals must be made directly to the Seminole Community Library’s inter-library loan department at sclloan@myseminole.com or 727-394-6906.

Loaned Materials

The Seminole Community Library follows the guidelines of the National Inter-Library Code (2001) that provides for some restrictions on what we may choose to lend to other libraries.  We do not lend the following materials:

  • “High-demand” books or books published within the last 12 months.
  • Text books used in coursework or published within the last three years.
  • Reference books.

The library will also provide copies of magazine articles from its collection subject to copyright restrictions.
The Seminole Community Library will renew inter-library loans subject to timely notification of the request (five business days) and local demand.
