Letter from the Library Director
Dear Community Members, Faculty, Students, and Visitors:
New Youth Services Supervisor: One of the key positions on the library staff is the Youth Services Supervisor. This person is in charge of all collections, resources, programs, and services for children, teens, and families. It is a supervisory level position and an important part of the library management team. We are very pleased to have with us Jill Storm, who started in the position August 15. Jill's professional background is in school media centers. She lives with her family here in Seminole, and we welcome her to the library team!
Self checkout station: Patrons soon will have the option to checkout their books, dvds, etc. on their own! In the coming months, the library will be adding a self checkout station on the first floor, near the circulation desk. Patrons may checkout on their own or go to the circulation desk, as they choose.
Expansion of the children's room: If you've heard some unusual noise lately on the first floor of the library, it's probably due to the expansion of the children's room! The "castle wall" of the children's room will expand to enclose the space formerly occupied by computers and the dvd collection (which will be relocated elsewhere on the first floor). The new space will allow for more bookstack space for a much used collection. Additional computers and seating also will be added to the existing space. The work should be completed in December.
Trust fund account: As you know, the Seminole Community Library is a "joint use" library – both a public library and a college library in one facility, and a partnership between the City of Seminole and St. Petersburg College. On the City side of the partnership, a special "trust fund account" was recently established in order to receive large monetary donations that benefactors may wish to bestow on the library. The Friends of the Seminole Library Board recently voted to donate $15,000 to the fund in a wonderful gesture of generosity and support. Friends President Madelyn Liss presented the check at the September 14 meeting of the Seminole City Council. The check has been deposited in the fund, which now totals approximately $80,000. The fund is the beginning of what in later years may become a fully managed trust fund or foundation, which will serve as a source of supplemental funding for the library. The magnanimous donation from the Friends’ Board is yet another example of the untiring generosity and encouragement of this organization. Our Friends have been and always will be an important part of this library's success!
Enjoy your library often!
Sincerely,
Michael Bryan
