Located near the Gulf of Mexico in sunny St. Petersburg, the Department of Music has a growing tradition of excellence, and St. Petersburg
College music graduates have distinguished themselves in a variety of ways. Many are outstanding teachers in public schools, colleges and universities, and private studios, while others have achieved recognition in such specialized areas as music business, jazz, or performance on the world's concert stages.
The music faculty of 22 share a strong commitment to teaching.
Performance is an integral part of each student's musical education. Among the many ensemble opportunities at St. Petersburg
College are the Symphonic Band, Community Chorus, Madrigal Singers, Jazz Ensemble, Percussion Ensemble, Steel Drum Band, Guitar Ensemble and other chamber
music groups. |

SPC's $2.28 million Music Center building represents the college's commitment to music performance. The 300 seat
Music Center opened during the summer of 2000 and is a state-of-the-art performance
facility with Heissler Pipe Organ and two Steinway grand pianos.
The Heissler organ was installed in the Spring of
2002. It is a tracker organ with 1600 pipes, 31 ranks, and 24 stops.
Purchase of this organ was made possible by a very generous gift by retired
professor of pipe organ, Mr. Robert Setzer.
The Department of Music prepares professional educators and musicians, provides every student at the University an opportunity to experience music, and serves as a center of musical art and culture for the Tampa Bay area.
In addition to its primary responsibilities to music majors, the Department also provides a number of courses and activities for non-music majors.
These pages are designed to give you a broad overview of our department. We invite you to visit our campus in person to see the many advantages of attending
SPC. |
