  Carbon neutrality

SPC president Carl Kuttler hopes to become one of the first community college presidents in Florida to sign the American Colleges & University Presidents Climate Commitment.  The American College & University Presidents Climate Commitment is a high-visibility effort to address global warming by garnering institutional commitments to neutralize greenhouse gas emissions, and to accelerate the research and educational efforts of higher education to equip society to re-stabilize the earth’s climate.

St. Petersburg College has created a greenhouse gas emissions inventory which will aid administrative decision makers in further lowering the college’s overall greenhouse gas emissions.

Additionally, the Office for Sustainability is developing a Climate Action Plan including a target date and interim milestones for achieving climate neutrality. Climate neutrality is defined as having no net greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions. SPC will achieve this through such measures as conservation, renewable energy, and carbon offsets or other measures to mitigate the remaining emissions.
