Recycling/waste
St. Petersburg College is in the process of starting a comprehensive college wide recycling program. SPC currently recycles paper (office, newspaper, magazines and phonebooks), plastic bottles, aluminum, glass and card board. In 2010, SPC will begin participating in the annual Recyclemania! event. RecycleMania! is a friendly competition and benchmarking tool for college and university recycling programs to promote waste reduction activities to their campus communities. Also, St. Petersburg College recycles e-waste, fluorescent tubes, computer monitors and CPUs through safe and environmentally sustainable means. Additionally, SPC donates obsolete computer systems, clothing and supplies to underprivileged schools and other agencies in Guatemala and Haiti. This project has, therefore, allowed St. Petersburg College to expand its environmental commitment beyond campus borders and become an advocate for both environmental and social sustainability at the international level. St. Petersburg College Male
Outreach and Women on the Way coordinators on each campus accept gently worn suits and other
dress clothes for donation to recent graduates preparing for job interviews. As a service to our students and to facilitate the affordable and environmentally sustainable exchange of books between students, St. Petersburg College offers SPC Book Swap. Additionally, the Dollars for Scholars Thrift Store for the Benefit of St. Petersburg College is located near the college’s Caruth Health Education Center, 7028 66th St. N, Pinellas Park. The thrift store’s mission is to raise funds for scholarships, student services and college projects. energy | sustainable design | education | carbon neutrality | recycling/waste | water |
