The Career Development
Center offers several options to assist students in
choosing a career field. Selecting a career appropriate to
each individual is one of the most important decisions a
student will make. It is the foundation of a lifetime that
will make a difference in everything you do, how you live,
and how happy you will be. The following career and job
preparation services are presently available.
Career Exploration
Testing
This program involves a
series of three assessments based on work-related values,
interests and personality types. Following the tests a
counselor-facilitated interpretation session is scheduled
to help you understand the assessment results, to
encourage you to do additional career research, and offer
advice on planning and goal setting. The fee for this
program is $25 for students or $35 for non-students. For
more information contact Elaine Hogue at 727-712-5209.
Computer Software
Programs
Computers located in the
Career Development Center include software programs which
will assist you in exploring career options, acquiring
information from college and university catalogs, and
preparing for a job search.
Florida
Choices - a
computerized career, education and financial aid
exploration and information system, to help you increase
your self-awareness, set priorities, and develop career
decision – making skills. This is free to all visitors of
the center.
College Source– a computerized software program with access to over
3,000 college catalogs including all state universities
and colleges, reviewing current academic information and
program requirements for each major at the upper division
level.
Job Search Preparation
Job search sources
include current local job opportunities posted on the Job
Board in the Career Center as well as several
computer-generated job listing services which are
continuously updated. Some programs enable the job seeker
to interact directly with potential employers. The Career
Development Center also offers a library of hands-on
information such as books, tapes and literature, as well
as assistance with constructing résumés and cover letters.
On-Campus Employment
On-Campus employment for
students is processed through the Financial Aid Office. If
you are interested, see Michelle Beck in the Financial Aid
office for an application. You may contact her by phone
(727) 712-5766 or email at
