English for Academic Purposes (EAP) for speakers of other Languages

Our Mission

ENGLISH LANGUAGE IMPROVEMENT TO AID YOUR WORKING OR PROFESSIONAL LIFE  In a face-to-face, cooperative learning environment, we explore the wide world of the English language.  Primary goals are enriching learner understanding, expressive ability, and fluency.  Two tracks of courses integrate academic skills and emphasize vocabulary and long-term retention.: 1) reading, writing, and grammar; and 2) listening and speaking.  Also offered are a pronunciation course that emphasizes accent reduction, plus a college-level writing laboratory course by special permission of the Communications Program Director.  A tandem goal is to aid learners in working towards  SPC Programs and Courses a certificate, an associate in arts / associate of science degree, or  baccalaureate degrees  (4-year degree programs)  in addition to SPC's University Partnership Center.

 

Since 1999, St. Petersburg College's Tarpon ESL Program has enrolled native speakers of 37 languages:

 

Albanian, Amharic, Arabic, Bahasa Indonesia, Bangla, Bosnian, Bulgarian, Chinese, Czech, Croatian, Ethiopian, Farsi, Flemish, French, German, Greek, Hebrew, Hungarian, Japanese, Korean, Kurdish, Lebanese, Mandarin, Persian, Polish, Portuguese, Romanian, Russian, Serbian, Slovak, Spanish, Swedish, Tagalog, Thai, Turkish, Ukrainian, and Vietnamese.
