It is the goal of the Natural Science department to provide a quality educational experience in terms of student learning for general education, traditional transfer, and allied health students by offering a full range of science courses tailored to our students’ needs and taught by a high-quality, professionally-current faculty. For the general education student we provide a comprehensive view of the concepts and process of science that will enable the graduate to make informed decisions in the public arena that involve science and technology. Our instructors will assist their students in the development of critical thinking skills necessary to separate science from pseudoscience.  Our instructors recognize that the focus of our courses should be to infuse conceptual understanding over strict knowledge of content.  Additionally, the enhanced use of "hands on" activities and active learning exercises through laboratory and field work is strongly encouraged.  Our allied health care program is comprised of Anatomy and Physiology I & II and Microbiology with accompanying labs.  This program provides a strong preparatory basis for future coursework in multiple health care fields.  Open labs are offered weekly as well a tutorial support for the majority of our courses.

Physics

Physics is the science concerned with the discovery and understanding of the fundamental laws which govern matter, energy, space, and time. Physics deals with the elementary constituents of the universe and their interactions, as well as the analysis of systems best understood in terms of these fundamental principles. Because physics treats the core workings of the universe, including the quantum mechanical details which underpin all atomic interactions, it may be thought of as the foundational science, upon which stands the "central science" of chemistry, and the earth sciences, biological sciences, and social sciences. Discoveries in basic physics have important ramifications for all of science.
