POS 2041 AMERICAN NATIONAL GOVERNMENT 3 credits "G" Prerequisite: (ENC 0020 and REA 0002) or EAP 1695 or appropriate score on the SPC placement test. This survey course provides a comprehensive examination of the American political system. Through this course students will become familiar with theory, organization, principles, and function of the American national government, and various elements within the political system that work to shape policy outcomes. This course partially satisfies the writing requirements outlined in the General Education Requirements. Credit is only given for one of the following: POS 2041 or POS 2050H or IDS 2103H. 47 contact hours. POS 2050H HONORS AMERICAN GOVERNMENT 3 credits "G" Prerequisite: Appropriate score on the SPC placement test or acceptance into the Honors College or approval of program director. This survey course provides a comprehensive and analytic examination of the American political system to students eligible for Honors classes. Through various teaching and learning methodologies, the student will become familiar with the theories, organization, principles and functions of the American national government. The course will cultivate independent, active learning, student participation and encourage the use of logical reasoning, in-depth analysis and critical thinking skills to examine the various elements within our political system which shape policy outcomes. This course partially satisfies the writing requirement outlined in the General Education Requirements. Credit is only given for one of the following: POS 2050H or POS 2041 or IDS 2103H. 47 contact hours. POS 2112 STATE AND LOCAL GOVERNMENT 3 credits "G" Prerequisite: (ENC 0020 and REA 0002) or EAP 1695 or satisfactory score on the SPC placement test. This course is an examination of the institutions and processes of Federalism, political parties, state governments, state protected civil liberties, counties, municipalities, special districts, and regional compacts. Examples and illustrations of processes and procedures will be drawn mainly upon the Florida government. This course partially satisfies the Gordon Rule writing requirements outlined in the General Education Requirements. 47 contact hours. |
