Recommended Computer Configurations:

Some students may prefer to use a laptop because of the mobility advantage.

NOTE: When comparing one computer to another, be aware of the type of processor you select. For more information on comparing the different Pentium processors and the Celeron processor, click here.

When comparing Pentium processors to an Apple G3 or G4, do not fall prey to the Megahertz Myth. (QuickTime is needed to view the Megahertz Myth; your current processor speed and network connection may affect your video playback.) QuickTime Player for Windows and Macintosh computers is available as a free download at the following web site:

Special Note: If you will be taking courses where you will be digitizing movies or are just interested in doing so, you should consider purchasing a FireWire card for your computer. FireWire is a high-speed data transfer interface between the computer and data storage devices such as external hard drives, external Zip drives or FireWire compatible cameras and digital camcorders. All current Macintosh computers come standard with FireWire. At least one FireWire port is recommended to connect to such devices.
