Up close and personal
Karin Bunch finds SPC classes challenging but not overwhelming.
Karin Bunch admits she was a bit jealous of her sister, who attended St. Petersburg College’s Early College program. Her sister got to wear whatever she wanted when attending classes, while she had to adhere to the dress code of Pinellas Park High School.

So, with encouragement from her sister, Karin Bunch entered the Early College program herself, a move that she appreciates for more than just the dress code – or lack thereof.
“It’s a totally different atmosphere,” Bunch said. “People are really mature; they want to succeed. It’s not playground time. You’re looked at as a grown up here.”
Bunch describes here fellow students as being like family, helping each other in their studies, and says that the faculty is “cool” because they’re open-minded.
She said she participates in a variety of organizations at SPC, including the Student Government Association and the Environmental Club. And she enjoys campus activities such as pizza with the provost (and the fact that she can eat where she likes and isn’t stuck with eating the “lunch lady” food served at her high school).
She also enjoys the flexibility of SPC’s online classes, which she takes at the Seminole Campus library.
“It’s really convenient, you can do your homework whenever you want,” Bunch said.
Although she enjoys freedoms at SPC that she didn’t have at her high school, Bunch understands that the college’s courses are a serious undertaking.”
“The courses are fantastic, challenging but not overwhelming,” Bunch said. “There’s no ‘pushover’ classes here.”
