Up close and personal

Amanda Bayatpoor knows Veterans Services.

Amanda Bayatpoor spent four years in the U.S. Army – including six months in Afghanistan – serving as a sergeant in intelligence. Upon leaving the military, she moved from Germany to the Tampa Bay area to be close to family and attend college.GI Benefits - "SPC has helped me maximize my GI Bill benefits." Amanda Bayatpoor, St. Petersburg/Gibbs Campus Student, Seeking a bachelor's in Education

As a mother of twin four-year old girls, Nataley and Nadia, Bayatpoor was looking for a college that was affordable and offered classes on a flexible schedule. She learned about St. Petersburg College and its academic excellence from a trusted source – her father, who attended SPC nearly 30 years ago to learn English after moving here from Iran.

Upon arriving at SPC, Bayatpoor received assistance through the G.I. Bill and utilized the college’s Veterans Services. Staff members there offered information about available funds and helped her with her schedule, making college easier for her.

“SPC helped me maximize my GI Bill benefits,” Bayatpoor said. “If it hadn’t been for SPC’s low cost, I would’ve had to get a part-time job in addition to the one I was working through the federal work-study program.”

Bayatpoor earned an Associate in Arts degree and is working on her bachelor’s degree in Education, with a focus on technology education. She is grateful for not only for SPC’s Veterans Services but also for her instructors.

“I really, really like the professors at St. Petersburg College,” Bayatpoor said. “They’re really friendly and very helpful.”
