The program includes:

  • Preparation for the GED, through pre-tests, individualized instruction and study
  • Completion of a packet of employability skills, including resumes and interview strategies
  • Investigation of a career, using the SPC Career Lab
  • Exploration of post-GED alternatives, including application and other preparations for PTEC, SPC or the military
  • Instruction in specific strategies for the adult learner, including the exploration of ways to use time and resources wisely.

Hours
Students are required to spend five hours per day, Monday through Friday, in the class. Students must arrive between 7 and 7:30 a.m.

What is different about this program?
Students in the In-School GED program not only receive GED preparation, they also are taught employability skills and are given career guidance. Students who are in their 4th year as a high school student are also eligible to participate in senior activities, such as graduation, at their school.

Are there many of these programs around?
The In-School GED program is only available at six locations in the Pinellas County School District. This program is the only one not located on a high school campus.

Getting started
Call the classroom at 727-712-5732 to set up an appointment to take the preliminary test.
