Celebrate International Education Week

A joint initiative of the U.S. Department of State and the U.S. Department of Education, International Education Week promotes programs that prepare Americans for a global environment and attract future leaders from abroad to study, learn, and exchange experiences in the United States. Join the celebration on your campus:

Study Abroad Fair
Tuesday, Nov. 17, 6 - 8 p.m. - Clearwater Campus
Study Abroad

Come learn all about the Study Abroad opportunities available to you. Get the details about all of the trips and watch presentations from the lead instructors for trips to: Greece, Belize, Ecuador, Ireland, Lithuania, Rome, Armenia and Japan. The event will be held in the Clearwater Campus Teaching Auditorium.

Sunday, Nov. 15 ,
The Palladium Theater

Amor de Tango, 4:30 p.m.
Some of Argentina’s finest dancers, musicians and singers come together for Amor de Tango at the Palladium Theater. This afternoon of sensual dancing and songs will be a feast for the eyes and ears. This show is the kickoff of a stateside tour. Students, faculty, staff and Palladium members get $3 off the ticket price. Purchase tickets online.

Monday, Nov. 16,
Clearwater Campus

International Dance Event, Noon to 2 p.m.
Show us what you got and enter the dance competition in the Quad for best student dancer. This will be judged by Clearwater Campus staff members. Winner gets a trophy and their photo in “SPC this week” student newsletter. Local ethnic dance groups will be on hand to perform and teach dance to students too.

Tuesday, Nov. 17, Seminole Campus

  • Cultural Government Exchange (live) with Russia, 9 to 10 a.m.
    SPC students will interact with students from Orenburg State University (Russia) via web conferencing in UPC 216 to discuss differences in government.

  • International Music Videos, 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.
    Watch and listen to music videos from different countries in the UPC lobby.

Wednesday, Nov. 18, Tarpon Springs Campus

  • International Banner
    How many countries are represented at the Tarpon Springs Campus? Everyone can sign the banner listing their country of origin at the Administration Building. The banner will be available throughout International Education Week.

  • International Flag Court
    A sample of international flags will adorn the Lyceum/Administration courtyard throughout International Education Week. Can you identify the country that is associated with each flag?

  • One Hundred Drums of Unity, 6:30 p.m.
    Come join us between the Administration and Lyceum buildings for a community drum circle where participants may interact and express themselves through music.

  • Table Tennis Invitational Tournament
    Register to play and represent yourself, campus or country of origin at the Student Center by 5 p.m., Fri., Oct. 23. Brackets will be set to begin play on Mon., Nov. 16 with final games to occur Fri., Nov. 20.

Thursday, Nov. 19, st. petersburg/gibbs Campus

  • Cultural Music Exchange (live) with Russia, 9 to 10 a.m. - CANCELLED
    The cultural exchange with Orenburg State University (Russia) has been cancelled due to problems with their videoconferencing equipment.

  • International Music Videos, 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.
    Watch and listen to music videos from different countries in the Student Services lobby.

  • Parade of Flags Quad Event, Noon to 2 p.m.
    Come watch the parade of international students with their national flags march across the quad and get to taste various ethnic foods from Asia, Latin American and Europe. Guess the country flag contest with prizes.
