College – An experience that is more than books
JaCaar Greenlaw knew she wasn’t ready to attend a big university after high school, so she decided to attend a college that would allow her to stay at home and save money.
“Basically, I wanted to work small to get a feeling of what college was like and work from there,” said Greenlaw.
So she chose SPC, where she takes full-time classes while working a part-time job. At SPC, she discovered programs such as Student Support Services and the High Achievers Club, where she has met peers and mentors who are supporting her in striving for academic excellence.
Greenlaw enjoys SPC clubs and activities and advises other students to get involved in them as well.
“It’s a great way to meet new people,” Greenlaw said. “Read the boards around campus to see what’s going on.”
In addition to academics and activities, Greenlaw has noticed that the college experience has helped her in other ways.
“My study skills are different, my work ethic is different,” Greenlaw said. “I’m much more responsible.”
