"How can we find out more?"

"What can a community college do for my child?"
Education opens doors to career opportunities, enables people from different cultures and experiences to meet and learn from one another, and allows individuals to explore their goals and abilities.

Over a lifetime, the holder of an associate's degree will make nearly double the money of a high school dropout, and a quarter-million dollars more than someone who stops with a high school diploma.

"How can I help my child get there from here?"
Planning is everything. Getting on track early in the countdown to college will save both you and your child time and money. Whether your child decides to pursue a two- or four-year degree, St. Petersburg College is here to help.

"What can I do right now?"

Work on a plan of action

  • Discuss career goals and priorities with your child. Set a time line to keep yourselves on track.
  • Collect information on post-high school opportunities. Attend college open houses, visit college campuses, log on to college web sites, and write for information.
  • Contact a high school guidance counselor regarding college testing (placement tests, ACT, SAT) and Advanced Placement classes.

Take college classes now
Check out the early admission and dual credit programs offered through Pinellas County public schools, many private schools and SPC. The programs enable your teenager to take college courses while in high school, which can save time and in some cases money, too.

"What does SPC have to offer?"
At SPC you can

...earn an Associate in Arts degree that grants you admission as a junior to one of Florida's 10 state universities.

...earn an Associate in Science degree or certificate that qualifies you to pursue a career upon graduation from SPC, without transferring anywhere else.

...earn a Bachelor's degree in one of more than a dozen specializations including Banking, Education and Nursing.

You get high quality for a low cost because SPC

...has small classes that allow for more individualized attention.

...is academically ranked in the top 1 percent of community colleges nationwide.

...is fully accredited.

SPC also offers

...free tutoring and testing services.

...open-access computer labs.

...a state-of-the-art library system.

"Can I afford it?"
Yes! For a typical three-credit-hour A.A. or A.S. course, you'll pay just $198.33 for the entire semester. At Florida's state universities, the identical class would cost you around $323.64.

A wide range of financial assistance (grants, scholarships and loans) is available to qualified students.
