MySPC Registration and Student Information System

MySPC Online Registration & Student Information System Help
Directions, Tips and Troubleshooting

What is the online registration and student information system?

This system is a secure system that enables you to register for courses and access student information over the Internet. You will also be able to drop courses, change grading option to audit or pass/fail for a course, pay fees with a VISA or Mastercard credit card, check grades, update address, phone and email information, and browse for course availability.  You may also check your enrollment appointment date, get details regarding financial aid awards, change your password, view course descriptions, change or add emergency contact information, and register for the CLAST.

Use of student numbers and a personal identification number (PIN) ensure that only you can register yourself and access your student information. The system also utilizes SSL encryption to protect the privacy and security of your transactions.

Who can use the system?

The system is currently available to returning students. New students must first submit an Application for Admission and credit-seeking students must pay the application fee (payable online when you apply), complete placement testing, and participate in new student orientation.

Non-students may go to the MySPC login screen to find links to View Course Descriptions, View Course Offerings and Apply for Admission.

When can I use the system?

The system is accessible every day, 6:00 AM to 11:00 PM.

Logging in with your Student ID number

The MySPC system uses Student ID number, not Social Security Number, as your unique identifier.  You were issued a Student ID number when you first applied to the college, but you may not remember it.  Click here to look up your student ID number.

Log in with your Student ID number and Password.  If you created a 4-digit PIN in our prior system or in SPIRIT (our now defunct phone system), it is now your Password.  If you need to create a Password, see below.

Creating your Password

  • If you don't have a PIN/Password from our prior systems, you must go to a special screen to create your Password.  Enter your student number and date of birth in MMDDYY format.  [Example: for January 30, 1980 you will enter 013080]  You will initially be assigned a random Password.  You can change that Password any time you wish.

If you forget your Password

  1. If you have a valid email address on file in MySPC, you can use our online reminder form to have your Password reset and sent to you via email.

  2. If you don't have a valid email address on file in MySPC, you must go to a campus registration office and present photo ID. Once they verify your identity, our registration staff can reset your Password.  This is for security reasons, so that not just anyone who knows you and your birth date can gain access to your records.  (Distance students can contact their home campus registration office and answer a series of questions to verify their identity.)

Note: There is no way to look up your Password in this system.  It is encrypted and we can't see it.  Once it is reset, you can use the new Password to change it to something you will be able to remember.

Some tips you should know before using the system:

  • The system is set to automatically time out after 20 minutes of inactivity (if you don't do anything in the system).

  • The system is accessible every day, 6:00 AM to 11:00 PM.

  • You may use your TAB key to move from field to field.

  • If your session sits idle for twenty minutes, you will be automatically be disconnected from the system.

  • Anytime you see a Magnifying glass icon in MySPC you can use it to look up valid values for that field.  Often there is no need to specify any criteria on the next screen, just click the Lookup button to get a whole list of values.

  • Be informed before you begin - you may access program requirements on the main web site (http://www.spcollege.edu) but they are not available in the online registration system.  Check this information before you log in to the system.  We also put out a pdf version of our schedule booklet each session at http://www.spcollege.edu/webcentral/csb/

  • When you are done using the system, please use the Logout link in the upper right hand corner of the screen to end your session properly.

  • New students who have gone through a new student orientation may register online. Transfer students must also attend a new student orientation or see a counselor or advisor before using the system.  Transient students cannot register online.

  • Currently enrolled credit-seeking students should receive an appointment card in the mail. Students registering online may register at any time on or after their appointment date.

  • Students wishing to register online for non-credit classes only may do so as soon as open registration begins each session. (See College Calendar for dates.)

  • Students taking courses that require special permission must register for those courses on campus (i.e., Nursing courses or Program for the Deaf and Hard of Hearing courses).

  • You may pay your fees online with a Visa or Mastercard or you may pay at a business office by cash, check, money order, Visa or Mastercard. You may no longer use the SPIRIT phone system to pay your fees.  Tuition and fees must be paid by the close of business on your due date. Failure to pay fees by the close of business on your due date will result in your schedule being canceled.  [Note: Due date for non-credit classes is the close of business on the day you register.]

  • Grades for the current session are available the day after they are entered into the system by the instructor.

  • Note that if you do not pay for your courses on or before your due date, you will be dropped from your courses.

Have the following information ready when you connect to the system:

  1. Your Student ID number.
  2. The six digits of your of date of birth. (Format is month/day/year, such as 010175 for January 1, 1975.)
  3. Your Password, which you may create the first time you use the system.  If you have used the telephone or online registration systems at SPC in the past, the same Password will work for the new online system.
  4. A list of desired courses (make sure that you have met all prerequisites). Four digit class numbers can be obtained from the system.
  5. A list of alternative courses in the event that your first choice is not available.
  6. Your credit card number and four digit expiration date of the card, if you intend to pay your fees by credit card online.

Can anyone else get to my information?

This site is secured in two different ways.  First, you must use your Student ID number and your personal Password to access your information.  If you forget your Password, registration staff will only give it out to you when you produce a valid picture ID.  So your records are kept confidential.

Your transactions are also protected from being intercepted by hackers by our encryption program.  That is why, when you sign on to our site you may see a message such as:

  • In Internet Explorer - "You are about to view pages over a secure connection.  Any information you exchange with this site cannot be viewed by anyone else on the web."

OR

  • In Netscape - "You have requested a secure document. The document and any information you send back are encrypted for privacy while in transit. For more information on security choose Document Information from the View menu."

How do I print?

These screens should print fine from your browser, however since we are using frames make sure you click somewhere in the area you want to print before choosing print.

How do I pay?

Your payment options include payment by cash or check (in person or by mail) or payment by credit card (in person, or using the online system). We accept Mastercard and Visa only.

Log in and choose Make a Payment. Follow the easy steps to make your payment.

It is important that you take the responsibility to drop any course that you don't wish to take.  Don't expect that withholding payment for the amount of the class will drop it for you.  If you are registered for two courses and only pay half your fees, you have a 50-50 chance that the class you didn't want is the one that will be dropped.

What do I do if I have a problem connecting?

It is possible that you will try to access the system and receive an error message. If all available connections are in use, you will get an error message. Wait a little while and try again. Difficulties in connecting will most likely occur just before classes begin and the first few days after grades are posted for a previous session.

Computer Troubleshooting

Problem Cause/Solution
You are unable to connect to the login screen where you enter your Student ID number and Password. There are a few possible causes of this:
  • Your browser version is not compatible with our system.
  • Your encryption level is not sufficient for our security.
  • Your Internet Service Provider (ISP) blocks access to secured resources (https://), or you are in an environment where the firewall prohibits secured resources.  Solution:  Contact your ISP or your network administrator about the possibility of lifting the restriction.
  • MySPC is currently down.  Solution:  Wait five minutes and try again.  If the problem persists and you are certain that you are not experiencing trouble due to one of the reasons listed above, call our Information Center at 727 341-4772 to report a possible outage.
In Netscape 4.7 or higher you get the message:
"The security library has experienced a database error. You will probably be unable to connect to this site securely."

This is due to the fact that this site is trying to send you an encryption certificate to allow you to send and receive your information securely.  There is also a known incompatibility in Netscape 4.72 default settings that conflicts with the encryption process.

Your browser may already have a certificate with the same subject name from a previous beta installation.

To check this, select Options | Security Preferences | Site Certificates. Look for any old certificates you generated from earlier installations. Remove them, and exit and restart your browser.

Other things to check:

  • Your browser has SSL v3 enabled. To check this, select Options | Security Preferences | General. (Or in 4.72, click the security icon on the toolbar, then choose the Navigator link.  Make sure the Enable SSL v3 box at the bottom is unchecked.)
  • Your browser contains an older version of a personal certificate that has the issuer name and the same serial number.

To check this, choose Options | Security Preferences, then click the Personal Certificates. Scroll through the list of certificates in your browser, and look for the old certificate. (You can double-click on the certificate nickname to get more information.)

If you find an older version of a personal certificate in your browser, select the certificate and click Delete Certificate.

If these tips do not solve the problem, clear your caches and exit and restart your browser. To clear the caches, select Options | Network Preferences | Cache, and click the buttons labeled Clear Memory Cache Now and Clear Disk Cache Now.

Payment was made but your total fees owed did not change. Check your balance again the following business day.  Due to processing procedures, total fees owed may not be updated until the following business day after a payment is made.
The only menu item you see under Learner Services is Catalog.  You also see an item for SPC Student Administration. You signed in as a guest.  You must log in with a valid Student ID number and Password to have full access to the system.
You receive the message "Page cannot be displayed."  Use the Refresh/Reload button on your browsers toolbar.  If that produces no results, use your browser's Back button to return to the previous screen, then select the option again.
Your bookmark to a page within the MySPC system brings up the following:

Your connection has expired.

For increased security on this site, connections are expired after a delay of 20 minutes.

If you would like to perform further transactions please:

 Return to MySPC Log In
This system requires log-in to verify user status.  Bookmarks will only work for the log-in screen.
