Dr. Mark McKinney named Dean of the College of Computer and Information Technology

St. Petersburg College (SPC) is pleased to announce Dr. Mark McKinney as the new Dean of the College of Computer and Information Technology (CCIT).
McKinney brings a wealth of experience in higher education leadership, academic innovation, and strategic planning. Known for his commitment to student success and industry partnerships, he most recently served as Associate Dean for Academic Affairs & Retention Services at Pasco-Hernando State College (PHSC). He led efforts that improved graduation rates and promoted academic excellence. His previous role as Assistant Dean for Student Affairs & Enrollment Management at PHSC focused on enhancing student engagement and persistence.
McKinney taught undergraduate and graduate courses in computer information systems, cybersecurity, health care administration, and business administration at institutions including PHSC and Penn State University. Before his academic career, he served in the U.S. Army as a Healthcare Administration Officer and a Human Resources Non-Commissioned Officer, experiences that strengthened his leadership and management expertise in both the health care and technology sectors.
He holds a Doctor of Education in Educational Leadership from the University of New England, along with multiple advanced degrees and industry certifications in project management, cybersecurity, and data analytics. A respected member of several professional organizations, he has published and presented extensively on topics such as leadership, strategic planning, and cybersecurity.
McKinney’s diverse experience and dedication to academic innovation position him to lead SPC’s College of Computer and Information Technology into its next chapter of excellence. In his personal time, he enjoys golfing and engaging with the community.
