SPC Reads Online Book Club - Weekly, Fridays @11am

Online- Zoom

Kick off your mental health journey the right way this semester by joining an online book club!

Zero stress, zero required reading, zero pressure. Come talk, discuss, and listen!

We will be discussing some of the philosophies and points made from "The Book of Hope" by Jane Goodall and Douglas Abrams.

Some of the themes for this initial meeting will be as follows:

Possible Discussion Questions:

  1. How would you define “hope”? How is it different from optimism or faith (or wishful thinking)?

  2. Do you think hope requires action? Why or why not? Can someone “hope” if they feel powerless?

  3. Have you ever felt hope despite being in a difficult situation? What held you up?

  4. What kinds of hope are more fragile? What kinds seem more durable?

  5. In what ways does hope show up in nature, or among animals (as Goodall suggests)?

This meeting will be held every Friday on Zoom for the rest of the semester starting on

Sept 26th at 11am.

Please register using the link below, each meeting will require a separate registration.

Frequently Asked Questions:

Q: Will this be graded?

A: No, this is not linked to any class assignment.

Q: Will I get in trouble if I don't read the book?

A: Not at all! The point of the book club is to spark an interest in reading the material, but you do not have to read anything to fully participate.

Q: Why is this only for Fall? Will it continue into the next semester?

A: Yes! It will continue in the Spring, however, we will have a different book!

Q: I have more questions: how do I ask them?

A: Please contact Sara Hack at hack.sara@spcollege.edu for any questions regarding the online book club.

Please contact Kaitlin Crockett at crockett.kaitlin@spcollege.edu for any questions regarding SPC Reads in general.
