The Computer and Information Science A.A. transfer plan is for students who want to pursue a bachelor of science degree in Computer and Information Science at universities in Florida that offer it. Students who complete these requirements graduate from SPC with an Associate in Arts Degree and meet the state-mandated pre-requisites of their four-year major.

A degree in Computer and Information Science can prepare you for careers like software or mobile applications developer, cybersecurity engineer or analyst or network engineer.

Program Summary

The following requirements are intended for students interested in completing an Associate in Arts Degree from SPC and will be transferring to a Computer Science program in the state of Florida (CIP Code 11.0101). However, all students who complete the following requirements will graduate with an Associate in Arts Degree (GEN-AA).

This requirement satisfies 3 credits of General Education Electives for the AA degree.
STATE MANDATED PREREQUISITES Mathematics Core and Elective
Completion of this requirement satisfies the General Education Mathematics Core and Elective requirements for the AA degree.
STATE MANDATED PREREQUISITES Natural Science Core and Elective
Completion of this requirement satisfies the General Education Natural Science Core and Elective requirements for the AA degree.

STATE MANDATED PREREQUISITES Electives
Completion of this requirement satisfies the General Education Natural Science Lab component and 8 credits of General Education Electives.
AA GENERAL EDUCATION REQUIREMENTS Communications - Composition
Complete 3 credits from the approved coursework below. Minimum grade of "C" required. This requirement must be completed within the first 24 credits of coursework toward the AA degree.
AA GENERAL EDUCATION REQUIREMENTS Communications - Speech
Complete 3 credits from the approved coursework below. Minimum grade of "C" required.
AA GENERAL EDUCATION REQUIREMENTS Social and Behavioral Sciences - American Government
Complete 3 credits from the approved coursework below. Minimum grade of "C" required. Completing POS 2041 or POS 2041H will also satisfy the Civic Literacy Requirement.
AA GENERAL EDUCATION REQUIREMENTS Humanities and Fine Arts - Core
Complete 3 credits from the approved coursework below. Minimum grade of "C" required. Completing ARH 1000, HUM 1020 or IDS 1106 will also satisfy the Enhanced World View Requirement.
AA GENERAL EDUCATION REQUIREMENTS Natural Sciences - Laboratory
Complete at least 1 course from the Natural Sciences coursework that includes a laboratory component. Minimum grade of "C" required. Natural Science Laboratory courses include any "C" or "L" course with the following prefixes: APB, AST, BOT, BSC, CHM, ESC, EVR, EVS, GLY, MCB, MET, OCB, OCE, PCB, PHY, PSC or ZOO.
AA GENERAL EDUCATION REQUIREMENTS Ethics
Complete 3 credits from the approved General Education Ethics coursework below. Minimum grade of "C" required.
AA GENERAL EDUCATION REQUIREMENTS Computer and Information Literacy Competency
Competency may be demonstrated by completing the Computer Information and Literacy Exam (CGS 1070T) OR by successful completion of one of the approved Computer/Information Literacy Competency courses below. No minimum credits required.
AA GENERAL EDUCATION REQUIREMENTS Foreign Language
This degree program requires a minimum of two consecutive years of a foreign language in high school OR two semesters of a foreign language at the college level.
AA GENERAL EDUCATION REQUIREMENTS Civic Literacy
Competency may be demonstrated by completing at least one course from the approved General Education Civic Literacy coursework below (minimum grade of "C" required) AND satisfactory completion of an assessment (exam). This requirement is in compliance with Rule 6A-10.02413 of the Florida Administrative Code.
GENERAL EDUCATION REQUIREMENT Electives
Complete 24 credits to satisfy the 60 credit requirement for the Associate of Arts degree: 9 credits from the above State Mandated Prerequisites and 15 additional elective credits. The courses used to satisfy the Computer and Information Literacy Requirement and Foreign Language Requirement will be counted as Elective credits. The courses used to satisfy the Enhanced World View requirement will be counted as Elective credits UNLESS counted in another General Education Requirement.
