St. Petersburg College has long been a place where students can transform their dreams into reality. For Eleftherios “TJ” Venieris, SPC provided not only an education but also a foundation for professional growth, leadership and lifelong connections. As a proud alumnus of SPC’s Paralegal Studies bachelor’s degree program, Venieris continues to give back to the institution that shaped his future, demonstrating a commitment to student success and community involvement.
A journey of growth and opportunity
When asked what motivated him to pursue a degree in paralegal studies at SPC, Venieris emphasized his desire to gain experience and open doors for his career. “I figured since legal entities hire individuals with the most experience, I needed to obtain more knowledge in order to advance myself as a professional,” he said. “A higher degree can open the door to many opportunities, and that’s what motivated me to get my bachelor’s degree.”
Venieris’ commitment to education was further supported by scholarships that enabled him to focus on his studies while also gaining hands-on experience in the legal field. “Being the recipient of something as rewarding as a scholarship has impacted me well beyond my expectations,” he said. “It encouraged me to advance with my studies and provided career opportunities that allowed me to gain experience, such as securing my first position with Florin|Roebig, PA.”
A lasting connection to SPC
For Venieris, SPC is more than just a college — it is an institution that embodies inspiration, empowerment and affordability. “SPC is the only community college that affords degree and certification programs. During my course of study, I was able to register for my own classes that best fit my daily schedule, with most of them being held in the evening,” he said.
His appreciation for SPC extends beyond his time as a student. Inspired by the faculty and staff who supported him, Venieris remains actively involved with the College after graduation. “The one thing that inspired me to stay involved with SPC is the faculty and staff who helped me get to where I am today. I’ve also grown close to members of both the SPC committee and the Foundation. Whenever there’s an ongoing event in need of assistance, I am always willing to participate in any way possible.”
Giving back and encouraging others
Venieris has made it a personal mission to give back to SPC and encourage others to do the same. He is a dedicated supporter of SPC’s annual day of giving, SPC Day, contributing annually to the campaign and promoting the college within the community.
“To show my gratitude for everything SPC has provided me, I have made it a goal to contribute annually to the day of giving campaign,” he said. “I’m always passionate when it comes to giving back to an organization whose mission is to support student success.” He also encourages fellow alumni to find ways to stay connected with SPC. “I would encourage all alumni to support SPC by participating or volunteering for student events whenever necessary, whether it’s for a good cause or a charitable contribution. Anything to help support student success makes an important impact.”
A rising career in law
Venieris is making strides in his legal career at Florin|Roebig, PA, specializing in the construction negligence department. “I’ve been with Florin|Roebig for about a year and three months. I’m really just the backbone for the attorneys — I do most of the work that attorneys would do, such as drafting complaints or demands of arbitration, setting up hearings, filing motions and more,” he said. “But moreover, the most rewarding part about this career is being able to collaborate with your team members and get the results that clients deserve.”
While he enjoys his role as a paralegal, Venieris has his sights set on an even bigger goal: becoming an attorney. “Right now, I’m enjoying what I’m doing as a paralegal, but I’m considering taking the next step and pursuing my Juris Doctorate degree. I’m planning to go to Stetson University in Gulfport and am preparing to take my LSAT in April.”
A leader in and beyond the classroom
During his time at SPC, Venieris was actively involved in numerous student organizations that helped him develop leadership skills and a deep connection to the College. He participated in student government, Phi Theta Kappa, the Legal Studies Society and served on the Paralegal Studies Advisory Committee. He is also a member of the SPC Day steering committee.
Reflecting on his journey, he credits SPC for helping him discover his leadership potential. “Prior to coming to SPC, I really wasn’t qualified to have any leadership roles,” he said. “But I came here, asked for information on how I could get involved in student government, and was offered the position of sergeant at arms. I said yes, absolutely, let’s do it. This was during the time when COVID hit, and we faced many unexpected challenges.”
An inspiration to future students
Venieris’ story is one of determination, gratitude and giving back. From his academic success to his professional growth and continued commitment to SPC, he serves as an inspiration to current and future students alike. Whether through his career in law, his contributions to SPC or his encouragement of alumni involvement, Venieris continues to embody the values that make St. Petersburg College a transformative institution.
As he looks ahead to law school and a future as an attorney, one thing is certain — his dedication to SPC and its mission will remain unwavering. “SPC has given me so much, and I’ll always be grateful. I encourage anyone who has benefited from SPC to find a way to give back and stay involved. The one thing that inspired me to stay involved with SPC is the faculty and staff who helped me get to where I am today."
