Dr. Leslie Hafer Named Vice President for Academic Affairs

St. Petersburg College has appointed Dr. Leslie Hafer as Vice President for Academic Affairs, effective Aug. 3, 2026.

Hafer brings more than 30 years of higher education leadership experience in academic affairs, student affairs, enrollment management and campus operations. Since joining SPC in 2018 as provost of the St. Petersburg/Gibbs Campus and its associated instructional sites, she has led initiatives that strengthen student success, workforce preparation and faculty support while overseeing campus operations and student affairs.

"Dr. Hafer has demonstrated an unwavering commitment to academic excellence and student success throughout her career," said SPC President Dr. Tonjua Williams. "Her collaborative leadership, dedication to our faculty and employees and deep understanding of our students and community make her exceptionally well prepared to lead the College's academic affairs as we build on nearly a century of educational excellence."

As vice president, Hafer will oversee the College's academic programs, faculty and instructional initiatives, helping ensure SPC continues to deliver high-quality, workforce-focused education that meets the evolving needs of students and employers.

Before joining SPC, Hafer spent 25 years at Georgia Military College, advancing from faculty member to department chair, academic dean and ultimately executive director and chief executive officer. She led academic programs, curriculum development, accreditation, faculty development, advising, enrollment management, academic support services and campus operations.

Although she has held increasingly senior leadership positions throughout her career, Hafer has remained committed to teaching and continues to serve as an adjunct faculty member at SPC, maintaining a direct connection to the classroom and student experience.

Hafer earned a Doctor of Education in Leadership from Valdosta State University and a Master of Science in Biology from Georgia College & State University. She also remains active in professional and community organizations throughout the Tampa Bay region. Hafer's appointment comes as SPC prepares to celebrate its centennial in 2027 and continues its mission of providing accessible, high-quality education that transforms students' lives and strengthens the workforce across the Tampa Bay region.
