The Rothman Family Foundation’s commitment to improving student success, particularly among learners with the fewest resources, was the impetus for their partnership with the SPC Foundation. As part of this partnership, SPC students who completed coursework in Early Childhood development were presented with sets of books encased in toddler-sized SPC book bags in December 2016. The students, each of whom is currently employed in a licensed childcare center or home care environment, will share and/or distribute the books to pre-school learners.

The Rothman Family also recognized childcare employers who encourage their employees to expand their teaching skills. As students earned a Preschool Specialization Certificate, each childcare provider was presented a set of classroom literacy materials, including an expanded assortment of books, manipulatives and interactive teaching tools.

Working together to improve literacy among our community’s youngest learners, as exemplified through the efforts of the Rothman family, will help close the achievement gap, promote early success and build a strong foundation for life-long learning.
