Make the transfer to St. Petersburg College

If you attended another college or university and want to attend SPC, you are considered a transfer student. To be admitted to SPC, you will need to submit official transcripts from every regionally accredited college that you've attended. It's very important that SPC receives all of your official transcripts within your first term of admission or re-admission as it may impact your ability to enroll for subsequent terms. Students enrolled in a degree-seeking program will have a one-term grace period to submit all official transcripts. Giving your complete educational history to SPC allows you to:

  • Receive credit for your previous work
  • Minimize the potential for repeating courses at SPC that you already successfully completed elsewhere
  • Simplify the registration process
  • Save you time and money

Your college transcripts will be evaluated and posted to your academic record after your application fee is paid and your high school transcript received or this requirement is waived. The Office of Admissions & Records prioritizes transcripts in the order they are received and every effort is made to post applicable transfer credits as quickly as possible.

If you are applying to a limited access program, you may be required to submit official transcripts from all previously attended colleges regardless of accreditation type. Please speak with an Academic Advisor for more information.

You can also earn academic credit through your experience in the military, industry certifications, exam scores, high school programs and the Experiential Learning Program.

  1. Apply to SPC
Apply to SPC and review our admissions steps. SPC cannot evaluate or post your transcript(s) until you have an admission application on file and you have completed all admissions requirements. If you have applied to one of our bachelor's programs, you may want to double check the admissions requirement checklist.
  2. Send Your Official Transcripts to SPC
Here's how to send your official transcripts to SPC. An official transcript is one that is sent directly from the institution in a sealed envelope and is designated official in writing or by virtue of transcript format. Official transcripts can be hand delivered to any campus admissions/registration center as long as the transcript remains sealed it its original envelope from the institution. Faxed transcripts are not considered official and will not be accepted or evaluated.
If you completed an A.A.S. degree or higher at a regionally accredited institution, we will not need your high school/GED transcript or Home School Affidavit. Also, prior coursework on a college transcript may exempt you from taking the SPC Placement Test.
  3. Review Your Evaluated Transcript
Once your admissions items have been met, including application fee payment, and receipt of your transcripts, SPC will post your applicable transfer credits to your record as soon as possible. After this is complete, please check your To Do List in MySPC or view an unofficial transcript in MySPC to verify that your transfer credits have posted.
  4. Contact an Advisor
We recommend that you meet with an advisor to determine the best utilization of the transfer credits awarded to meet your degree objectives.

How will my course credits transfer to SPC?

Use the Transfer Evaluation Tool to get an idea of how the credits you earned at another college or university may transfer to SPC. We would be happy to answer specific questions you have about this tool. You may contact us at transcript.evaluator@spcollege.edu.

The Transfer Evaluation Tool compares St. Petersburg College course credits with that of other colleges and universities. This tool is reviewed and updated continually as we receive transcripts from various colleges and universities. As you utilize this tool, please note the following:

  • If you don't find a specific institution listed, this does not necessarily mean that institution's credits are not accepted by SPC. However, if the institution is not regionally accredited or participating in the Statewide Common Course Numbering System, the courses will not automatically transfer.
  • If you don't find a specific course listed, this does not necessarily mean that the course will not be accepted by SPC. This could be for a variety of issues, for example it could be that this course has not yet been evaluated by our transcript evaluators.
  • Please note that while a course equivalency may appear, this does not guarantee that the course will transfer to St. Petersburg College. The Admissions and Records staff continually reviews equivalencies, making them subject to change.

Check your transfer credit

All grades for college-level courses (including Fs) will be considered for calculation of grade point average. After your transcript evaluation is complete, please check MySPC to see if your transfer credits have been posted as expected.

  • Your official SPC transcript will reflect three items:
    • Your SPC grade point average
    • Your SPC transfer grade point average
    • A combined grade point average
  • Upper division course will only be posted to your SPC record if you are pursuing a bachelor’s degree or at the request of your program or advisor.
  • Graduate level courses will not be posted to your SPC record.
  • If you have repeated a course at another institution, SPC will accept only the most recent attempt for that course.
  • All grades for college-level courses (including Fs) will be considered for calculation of grade point average.
  • Transfer course for which there is no direct SPC equivalent will be posted as elective credit and designate with a ‘999’ course number. If you believe a course posted as an elective should satisfy a degree requirement, you may submit a request for an Alternate Satisfaction. This request should be completed in consultation with your academic advisor.
  • Non-regionally accredited institutions
SPC will transfer only course work that was completed at a regionally-accredited institution. We do not accept credits from non-regionally accredited institutions, except for some Florida schools that participate in the Statewide Common Course Numbering System and are included on an approved list maintained by the Florida Department of Education.
For courses that are initially deemed nontransferable to St. Petersburg College, you have the option of seeking an alternative method for obtaining credit. The following supporting documentation must be submitted by the student for each course requested for reconsideration:
    • A copy of each course syllabus must include course title, course length, course description, text used.
    • Verification of faculty credentials, to include a copy of the faculty member’s resume.
    • The student should submit the petition for credit form and the aforementioned documentation to the Admissions and Records department.

We recommend that you meet with an advisor to determine how to best use your transfer credits to meet your degree objectives. You should also contact the financial aid offices at SPC and the school you currently attend to determine transfer policies.
