The Geology A.A. transfer plan is intended for students who want to pursue a bachelor of science degree in Geology at the University of South Florida Tampa. Students who complete these requirements graduate from SPC with an Associate in Arts Degree and meet the state-mandated pre-requisites of their four-year major.

A degree in geology can prepare you for careers in environmental geology and geoscience, pollution control, glacial geology, geological surveying, water supplies, engineering geology, ground investigation, geochemistry, volcanology, field seismology and geotechnical engineering.

Program Summary

This program is offered as a Fully Online program.

This Program of Study is intended to assist in the transfer advising process. Students following a transfer plan (FTGEOL-TR) will graduate with an Associate of Arts degree from SPC. The following requirements include State Mandated Prerequisite courses and are intended to prepare students for transfer into a Geology baccalaureate program at USF Tampa (CIP 40.0601).

Fuse Program Information
Students must declare their enrollment in the Fuse Program before completing 30 credit hours. Students in the Fuse Program must meet certain eligibility criteria to ensure their guaranteed admission to their intended program: minimum GPA, completing the courses outlined in the Academic Pathway, completing all State Mandated Prerequisites, and graduating with an Associate of Arts degree. This requirement satisfies 3 credits of General Education Mathematics Elective and 2 credits of General Education Electives.
STATE MANDATED PREREQUISITES Natural Science Core, Elective & Lab
This requirement satisfies 3 credits of General Education Natural Science Core, 3 credits of Natural Science Elective, Natural Science Lab, and 14 credits of General Education Electives.
AA GENERAL EDUCATION REQUIREMENTS Communications - Composition
Complete 3 credits from the approved coursework below. Minimum grade of "C" required. This requirement must be completed within the first 24 credits of coursework toward the AA degree.
AA GENERAL EDUCATION REQUIREMENTS Communications - Speech
Complete 3 credits from the approved coursework below. Minimum grade of "C" required.
AA GENERAL EDUCATION REQUIREMENTS Social and Behavioral Sciences - American Government
Complete 3 credits from the approved coursework below. Minimum grade of "C" required. Completing POS 2041 or POS 2041H will also satisfy the Civic Literacy Requirement.
AA GENERAL EDUCATION REQUIREMENTS Humanities and Fine Arts - Core
Complete 3 credits from the approved coursework below. Minimum grade of "C" required. Completing ARH 1000, HUM 1020 or IDS 1106 will also satisfy the Enhanced World View Requirement.
AA GENERAL EDUCATION REQUIREMENTS Ethics
Complete 3 credits from the approved General Education Ethics coursework below. Minimum grade of "C" required.
AA GENERAL EDUCATION REQUIREMENTS Computer and Information Literacy Competency
Competency may be demonstrated by completing the Computer Information and Literacy Exam (CGS 1070T) OR by successful completion of one of the approved Computer/Information Literacy Competency courses below. No minimum credits required.
AA GENERAL EDUCATION REQUIREMENTS Foreign Language
This degree program requires a minimum of two consecutive years of a foreign language in high school OR two semesters of a foreign language at the college level.
AA GENERAL EDUCATION REQUIREMENTS Civic Literacy
Competency may be demonstrated by completing at least one course from the approved General Education Civic Literacy coursework below (minimum grade of "C" required) AND satisfactory completion of an assessment (exam). This requirement is in compliance with Rule 6A-10.02413 of the Florida Administrative Code.
GENERAL EDUCATION REQUIREMENT Complete 24 credits
Complete 24 credits to satisfy the 60 credit requirement for the Associate of Arts degree: 19 from the above State Mandated Prerequisites and 5 additional credits. The courses used to satisfy the Computer and Information Literacy Requirement and Foreign Language Requirement will be counted as Elective credits. The courses used to satisfy the Enhanced World View requirement will be counted as Elective credits UNLESS counted in another General Education Requirement.
